I'm replacing the pictured head unit with the same exact one. The first one suddenly stopped outputting sound to the speakers. You would only get a signal to the subwoofer. Just mild annoying thumping, no music.
So, figuring the head unit went bad, I bought the same exact unit only to have it do the same exact thing. Now it is probably important to note I did not replace the harness. I'm going to replace that right now hoping that is the issue, but any input would be appreciated.
Update: That did nothing

What type of car is this in? Does this car perhaps come with an amplifier stock? Some cars have them hidden under a seat or in the trunk from the factory. My jetta had one under the rear seat and my current Taurus has one in the trunk.

Blew the speakers? Short in the harness?

I just replaced the harness and no change. I've been scouring the internet and it looks like if one speaker has a short it will kill the others. The rear deck speakers will be easy enough to check, but the front two are part of the dash and not easily accessible.

right, the fronts on those are 4" speakers IIRC. My Ram 50 takes the same size in front.

Hopefully the speakers themselves are still good and it's just a cut wire somewhere. Pretty soon I need to do this to my car to fix the temperature controls, so that'll be the ideal time.
